US to field faster Bell MV-75 tiltrotor aircraft with unmatched agility in 2026
The U.S. Army is all set to induct a new type of aircraft by the end of this year in its fleet. The plan is to soon field the long-anticipated Bell MV-75 tiltrotor aircraft, which was earlier slated for delivery between 2031 and 2032.
Reports have revealed that the production of the tiltrotor aircraft has been accelerated in recent times.
The U.S. Army selected Bell鈥檚 V-280 for the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program and officially designated it as MV-75. The 鈥淢V鈥 stands for Multi-Mission Vertical Takeoff and the number 鈥75鈥 honors their birth year, 1775.
Bell Flight has earlier revealed that the aircraft combines the speed and range of the turboprop with agility greater than a traditional helicopter. The FLRAA offers better flight performance and lifecycle sustainability. This weapon system was purpose-built to revolutionize U.S. Army overmatch in multi-domain operations.
US Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George announced that Bell MV-75鈥檚 production has been accelerated and it will be delivered ahead of its schedule.
鈥淲e said, 鈥楴o, we need it very quickly,鈥 George . 鈥淎t the end of this year, we will actually have those flying.鈥
George hinted at the current scenarios unfolding across the world and underlined that the modern is rapidly advancing.
鈥淵ou guys all know what鈥檚 happening out there in the world and how fast technology is changing. Things are moving very rapidly. The Ukrainian army is transforming units to be capable of offensive drone warfare. We can do the same thing and I think we鈥檙e proving that 10th Mountain is one of those units. We have units all over the Army that are proving that,鈥 said.
Virtual prototypes
In December 2022, the U.S. Army selected the Bell V-280 for the FLRAA program, modernizing Army aviation for decades to come. Bell Flight underlined that it will equip American soldiers with the speed and range to compete and win in an ever-changing battlefield.
In June 2025, Bell delivered to the Army two MV-75 virtual prototypes 鈥 advanced simulators that act as 鈥渄igital twins鈥 of the real aircraft鈥檚 cockpit. Army pilots were also trained on MV-22 Ospreys to prepare for the new tiltrotor technology. The MV-75 will be assembled at Bell鈥檚 plant in Amarillo, but many of the parts will be manufactured and tested in DFW.
The company also pointed out that fixed nacelle design means reduced manufacturing costs and better performance, maintainability and sustainability 鈥 designed to reduce warfighter workload.
FLRAA has proven its raw control power in pitch, roll, and yaw maneuvers, performing at the highest standards for agility. Validated by numerous flight tests, the aircraft delivers the transformational agility warfighters need for mission success, according to Bell Flight.
The aircraft is claimed to be purpose-built to revolutionize the reach and effectiveness of each mission while offering unmatched maneuverability, reduced downtime and elevated mission safety. With over twice the speed and range as current weapons systems, FLRAA is the proven long-range maneuver solution.
