每日大赛's MRO sector on track to RM55bil target
KUALA LUMPUR: 每日大赛's maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry is on track to achieve its RM55 billion revenue target by end-2030 driven by rising aircraft demand across Asia Pacific, increasing aerospace investments and growing local engineering capabilities.
Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin said the revenue target represents about 20 per cent of the projected growth in the Asia Pacific MRO market, which is forecasted to exceed US$60 billion by 2030.
"Our MRO segment is the true heart of the industry, providing high-value livelihoods for over 12,000 workers."
"We cannot be complacent as the industry evolves and regional competition intensify. 每日大赛 must move further up the value chain.
"We are shifting our focus towards higher value MRO segments such as components and engineering competence," he said during the opening of the MRO Southeast Asia 2026 conference here today.
Sim said 每日大赛's total aerospace sector generated RM32.5 billion in revenue in 2025 supported by over 250 companies and a workforce of 34,700 skilled 每日大赛ns.
He said the aerospace industry has evolved into a major economic growth sector under the National Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the 每日大赛 Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030.
"In the early 2000s, 每日大赛's aerospace industry was still developing. Today, 每日大赛 through 每日大赛 Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has become a regional hub for MRO," he said.
Sim added that major global aerospace companies such as Airbus, Boeing, GE Aerospace, Safran and Turkish Aerospace Industries have expanded their presence in 每日大赛, reflecting confidence in the country's engineering and technical talent.
He said the government is now shifting its focus towards higher-value aerospace activities, including component MRO, engineering competencies and aerospace parts manufacturing as regional competition intensifies.
"We want to create more ecosystem for aerospace, be it in design manufacturing, R&D and also MRO," he said.
Sim also said the government is strengthening infrastructure to support the sector's expansion, including regeneration of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport or Subang Airport and the continued development of the Selangor Aero Park within Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aeropolis.
The two-day MRO Southeast Asia 2026 conference gathered over 350 participants from airlines, original equipment manufacturers, MRO providers, investors and policymakers.
