MAB Engineering Services partners with MTU Maintenance Zhuhai to strengthen aviation maintenance capabilities
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 22): ÿÈÕ´óÈü Aviation Group’s maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) arm, MAB Engineering Services, has signed a support services agreement with MTU Maintenance Zhuhai to enhance its engine maintenance and on-site support (OSS) capabilities.
This partnership builds on a 2023 memorandum of understanding and aims to help MAB Engineering’s ambition as a leading regional MRO provider.
MTU Maintenance Zhuhai is a 50/50 joint venture between engine company MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Airlines — Asia’s largest airline by fleet size and passenger numbers, and one of the top five airlines globally.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, MAB Engineering plans to be ready for OSS on CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B engines by July 2026, followed by readiness for V2500 engines in 2027 and LEAP engines in 2028.
The partnership includes technical training, project management support, and sales assistance, supported by approvals from key aviation regulators worldwide.
This collaboration positions MAB Engineering to tap into the fast-growing Asia-Pacific MRO market, valued at over US$25 billion (RM105.73 billion), strengthening ÿÈÕ´óÈü’s role in the aviation maintenance sector.
MTU Maintenance Zhuhai chief executive officer Gert Wagner emphasised the increasing demand for MRO services in Asia and expressed confidence in the success of the partnership.
MAB Engineering operates three hangars with 11 aircraft bays at its Sepang and Subang facilities. It offers comprehensive MRO solutions for a wide range of aircraft including A330, A350, A380, the A320 family, Boeing 737, 747, 777, as well as ATR and DHC turboprops — making it one of the largest MRO providers in the Asia-Pacific region.
