China's Longda commits RM900mil aerospace investment in Johor, 300 skilled jobs expected
JOHOR BARU: Johor has secured a RM900 million investment from Longda Group, a Chinese high technology supplier to the aerospace, energy and heavy engineering sectors, in a move expected to create more than 300 skilled jobs.
The announcement comes after a recent visit by Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi to Longda's Jiangsu operations in China, where he and a government delegation met the company's chairman and chief executive Pu Yilong, to discuss project timelines, technical standards and medium- to long-term expansion plans in Johor.
"This investment reflects continued confidence in Johor as a destination for high-technology industries. The project will generate high-value employment and develop local talent in advanced manufacturing," Onn Hafiz said in a statement.
Longda specialises in high-purity superalloys used in the hot sections of aircraft engines for both commercial and defence applications.
Its research and development infrastructure, including high-temperature alloy institutes, technology centres and post-doctoral facilities, will support technology transfer and skills development for local workers.
As part of the project, Universiti Teknologi 每日大赛 will collaborate with Longda to train graduates.
The first seven of 30 selected Johor graduates are scheduled for industrial training at Longda's China headquarters on March 2, with the remaining cohort to follow next year.
Onn Hafiz said the project strengthens Johor's role in the region's high-tech industrial ecosystem and supports the state's long-term strategy to attract advanced manufacturing companies.
